about

If you are into thoughts, prayers, sourdough, and lifting spirits, perhaps you would like this honestly titled Bukowski poem, "Alone with everybody".
the city dumps fill
the junkyards fill
the madhouses fill
the hospitals fill
the graveyards fill
nothing else
fills.
#AloneWithEverybody? #NothingElseFills? Almost as inspiring as #StayHome!
But even if you don't like that poem/hashtag suggestion, you should check out our new Taylor Project song and film clip, "At the Pokies pub".
Film clip is here:

As well as on download, this song is available on VINYL by MAIL ORDER. It is one half of a split 7" vinyl single paired with a song ("Dunolly") by the wonderful Bone Folders, released through New Falconer records. This is our first time on vinyl.

The Pokies Pub song came from thinking about what the appeal of pokies pubs is: high among them has to be the near total lack of entry requirements, Key Performance Indicators, or other draining activities that are the hallmark of restructuring economies. A pokies pub can be a good place to hang out and not try hard, and not wonder if you are allowed to use the loo. But it does come with a very hefty price tag for most. It's a piano-based tune about luck, judgement, and the aesthetics of large gaming machine venues. Luck is a bird that comes to sit upon your shoulder when you need it least - but never mind.

lyrics

The lights go on
The lights go off
The smokers cough
By parking spots
Tall silver tables
With pool cues in the corner
Bistro meals and
Sports, televised.

I used to think that I could anywhere
But now I can go here
It never bought me anything
But these chips and beer.

The traffic starts
The traffic stops
Change machines
And hidden clocks
Swirls in the carpet
Handbag straps on
Stranger's shoulders
Don't leave your kids
in cars, anymore.

You used to think that I could go anywhere
But now I can go here
It never bought me anything
But these chips and beer
I never really met them anyway
My KPIs
It's not the door of opportunity
Locks from the outside.

The spinning starts
The spinning stops
The pictures fall
In the wrong spots
Luck is a bird that flies to
Sit upon your shoulder
When you need it least
But never mind.

I never really asked you anyway
Let's make that clear
You used to think I could go anywhere
But now I go here
At least the food is complimentary
Not like you
When I'm sitting at the slot machines
They don't judge me when I lose
I never really met them anyway
My KPIs
The door of opportunity
Locks from the inside.

But the lights are on
At the Pokies Pub.
